Friendly Service Crew & Delectable Dessert at Maison Ikkoku

A winning formula for a cafe is great coffee + friendly customer service + awesome food & dessert. Maison Ikkoku located near the Sultan mosque nailed all three and I especially love the small alfresco area with enough fans to beat the humid weather!

It's been a while since I had brunch and I was super glad that I visited with an empty stomach because the eggs benny was super delicious! I was too busy having a catchup session with my girlfriend and forgot to capture the oozy #eggporn in action. But trust me when I say the poached eggs are done just right.

My Rendang Blackstone was super delish - pulled rendang beef chunks sandwiched between lightly toasted brioche and poached eggs drizzled with hollandaise sauce. Every mouthful was a wonderful burst of flavours in my mouth, and I really love the tender and spicy rendang. My only gripe was the rendang's slightly salty aftertaste but luckily, there's free-flow self-service water by the counter.

I was pleasantly surprised that the brioche remained light and slightly crispy 'til the end of my meal because it would mean that the bread was really fresh and toasted just right. Even the rocket salad tossed in balsamic vinegar was delicious and I love the small watermelon balls! Totally brightened up the whole dish and my day.

The flat white coffee that we ordered did not disappoint either - not too bitter and the amount of milk was just right. It was smooth to the taste and it was a great complement to what I had for dessert!

This beautiful Nutella Red Velvet Cake was superbly rich and moist yet fluffy! (What is this sorcery?!) The generous nutella spread in between the layers of red velvet cake was enough to send me to cake heaven (and the gym tomorrow). Even the cake is totally feelin' the Christmassy mood with the green cream cheese frosting. I guessed the whopping $8 for such a huge slice of cake is worth it.

Nothing beats a satisfying brunch and I love the friendly service crew who greeted every customer with smiles and the food were served very promptly even though it was full house when I was there. Another plus point would be the cosy ambience that is perfect for catch-ups with friends over brunch and dessert. I especially love the rustic touches to the cafe, like the recycled wooden doors as tables at the alfresco dining area. Prices for the weekend brunch is on the steep side (eggs benny are about ~$20 averagely), but I think it's worth it because I can't wait to try the other brunch items on the menu!

If you plan to drop by Maison Ikkoku on a weekend, I strongly recommend you to make prior reservations to get indoor seating. Be sure to try their dessert!
